High Flex Braided Cable for the Sensor Industry
At Micro-Tek Corporation, we specialize in the manufacture of custom cables and wire that can accommodate the most stringent requirements. This capability is demonstrated in the highly flexible braided cable project highlighted here. The cable was to be used in a sensor application where it would be exposed to a low pressure and low temperature environment.
The cable members are each a highly flexible bunch stranding of 51 strands of #46AWG OFHC Bare Copper (0.0130"). This allows for superior flexlife while maintaining the favorable electrical properties of larger strandings. Each member was then insulated with FEP to a diameter of 0.020"± 0.001" in. Use of FEP allows for long lengths and a variety of colors, along with the 10 standard colors and Clear, one member was given Pink insulation. FEP has no lower service temperature rating and has Low Outgassing characteristics which allow for its use in low temperature and vacuum settings. The strands are then cabled with a long lay to an OD of 0.082". A #38AWG Silver Plated Copper shield is then applied to reduce external electrical interference bringing the final cable to a 0.100" nominal OD for the entire construction.
The customer's specifications and 2D drawings guided our communication cable assembly efforts, as we produced 5,000' with an eight week delivery.
